The spectacular Snowy Mountains are part of the Great Dividing Range and fall across both the NSW and Victorian high country areas.
Maps show the Snowy Mountains finishing at the NSW border however state borders are not known to nature.

The Snowy’s have the highest peaks in Australia, the highest being Mount Kosciuszko which is 2,223 metres high.

Australia’s top ski resorts, such as Perisher, Thredbo, and Charlotte Pass all lie within Kosciuszko National Park, they are easily accessible and have world-class facilities.

The Snowy Mountains are a popular destination for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts all year-round. Activities in winter include downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding. In summer people enjoy bushwalking, bird watching, hiking, climbing, water skiing, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, and fishing.

Fly fishers seek trout in the pure rivers, lakes, and streams. Lake Jindabyne is a favourite and is one of Australia’s top fishing destinations.

2. SEE THE LARGEST FRESHWATER LAKE IN NSW

Lake Jindabyne is one of the state’s largest freshwater reservoirs and is the focal point of the resort town of Jindabyne. Walking and cycling tracks ring the lake and on the water, kayaking, canoeing, and power boating are enjoyed by locals and visitors.
The lake is said to be one of the best fishing spots in Australia for Atlantic salmon, brown trout, brook trout, and rainbow trout.

3. DRIVE ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S GREAT SCENIC DRIVES

If you want to see the highlights of Australia’s only alpine region take the Alpine Way Scenic Drive that twists and climbs on narrow mountain roads between Khancoban and Thredbo, through southern Kosciuszko National Park.
The drive will take you past alpine lakes and rivers, flower-flecked meadows, and magnificent mountain scenery.
