Famous for some of the best foods and wines in Australia, Orange abounds with interesting and diverse shops, beautiful public and private gardens, spectacular rural landscapes and cultural delights.
Orange is the highest altitude wine region in Australia. All are dominated by Mount Canobolas which at 1,395 metres always forms part of the background of the landscape. Orange’s cool climate wines continue to gain in reputation being renowned for superb quality and flavour. There are over 30 cellar doors where you can try the local vintages.

THE FOUR SEASONS IN ORANGE

Autumn
Autumn in the Orange Region is spectacular! Thousands of northern hemisphere trees burst with colour and shed their leaves to form magical carpets.
Winter
The landscape becomes a spectacular minimalist display with deep contrasts and intricate silhouettes. It usually snows for a few days once or twice a year.
Spring
The dormant trees and bulbs burst into colour and are put on display just about any colour you can imagine.
Summer
The days are warm long and golden. The light late in the day has a unique inner glow. It’s when the locals go fishing, picnic by the lakes have long BBQs.

FOODS OF THE ORANGE REGION

People who love food and food experiences love the Orange Region. You’ll have a wide choice of produce, restaurants, chefs, and markets.
The Orange Farmers Market is held on the second Saturday each month. The Mooorbel Markets, the first Saturday each month at Canowindra and the Produce & Craft Markets on the third Saturday at Cumnock.
Many producers and orchards have farm gate sales. We suggest it is best to call first to check that they have stock and to when they are open.
Eating out in our regions is a lot of fun. You can choose from a hatted fine dining restaurant, a rustic restaurant specialising in using local produce or a classy urban restaurant, or a wood-fired pizza, a hearty bistro meal at a pub or club and like many, you may not go past the superb meals served at one of our busy cafes. If in doubt ask a local.
During the year the region celebrates local fare at FOOD Week (April), Orange Apple Festival (May), Orange Wine Festival (October), Garlic Harvest Festival (December), Molong 100 Mile Dinner (April) and the Canowindra@home Long Lunch (April).
