Millthorpe Golden
Memories Museum
Step into history at Millthorpe’s Museum. It is a large complex with eight large buildings housing many and varied collections from Aboriginal items, fraternal societies, local family and business history, Australian inventions, rural technology, machinery and much more.
Millthorpe’s history is closely entwined with the story of gold mining and with the ebb and flow of agriculture. At the museum, the story of gold starts with the 1851 Lister and Tom’s original gold discovery of gold to the huge present-day mining operations in Cadia Valley.
Millthorpe Golden Memories Museum has John Lister’s pick (he’s buried in the Millthorpe cemetery), gold mining relics from the original Cadia Valley operations, and memorabilia that shows how our pioneers lived.
There is an extensive collection of tractors and a 1911 Clayton and Shuttleworth steam engine that worked around the district crushing gold ore and cutting chaff.
The Rural Technology display has a fascinating collection of farm machinery much of which can be electrically driven by visitors.
The Jacoba Craft Cottage operates on the Museum grounds during opening hours. Access to the Craft Cottage is free.
