Bourke Outback NSW

Bourke has attracted the rich and famous and those looking to escape life on the coast.

Over the years it has welcomed Banjo Paterson, Henry Lawson, Fred Hollows and Dame Mary Durack and many more.

Bourke’s magic is it’s mixture of old weathered landscapes, the history and hardships of the pioneers and it’s friendly people and it’s characters.

You should take a wander through the Bourke Cemetery to take in the life of those who have gone before. Today you can ride the paddle boat PV Jandra and on occasions dine on board as you cruise the Darling River.

While in town you should visit the Back O’Bourke Exhibition Centre and see the Back O’Bourke Outback Show. The town’s most popular caravan park is Kidman’s Camp. If you like to free camp then check out Mays Bend which is a quiet spot to spend a few days. It is just 11km north of town.

Historic Cemetery & Fred Hollows’ Grave
The Bourke General and Historic cemetery is located south of the township on the Cobar Rd (Kidman Way).
“The Coolibah’s of Bourke cemetery guard, a fascinating piece of Australia’s frontier history. An hour spent browsing the inscriptions will take you back into a world of bushrangers and drovers, cameleers and river boat men, lost children and local heroes. Bourke’s cemetery predates the town.”
